Year: 2003

From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Director Gore Verbinski (The Ring) comes Pirates of the Carribean, based on the Disneyland ride of the same name. Don’t let that turn you off though: the movie is far better than any movie based on a theme park ride — or any Jerry Bruckheimer production for that matter — has any business being.
Pirates features great performances from Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and Geoffrey Rush, as the treacherous Captain Barbarossa. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley are both servicable in their roles, but the film is really about Depp and his performance.
The visual effects as created by ILM are great, particularly scenes where the pirates move seemlessly between their living and undead forms.
The film is a tad on the long side, but director Gore Verbinski keeps things moving, and the film is full of amusing visual gags and some great sword fighting actions sequences.
